RENOIR

The soundtrack to this performance is played via two sets of headphones, one worn by the performer and the other worn by a single member of the audience. This soundscape is comprised of a set of dance tracks chosen to encourage constant movement and a regular pace. Both the performer and the audience member hear the same tracks, at the same time. After all tracks in the set have played they repeat.

For the audience who watch without headphones the sound of the blades on the ‘ice’ surface offer a different narrative. This soundscape is created by the movement of the performer and offers a contrast to the sound played over headphones.

This sound will be recorded to provide additional research data to examine the choreographic, creative and performative process.

Context;

Three key performance pieces influenced the soundscape for my work; Marina Abramović’s ‘The Artist is Present’, Torvill and Dean’s Oscar Tango and Anna Macdonald’s contemporary performance/dance workThis is for you’ (presented at the 2014 Ludus Festival conference). These ideas were further informed by feedback given after my performance at the TaPRA 2014 conference.
